Hello and welcome to the University of York Dance Society website. I'm Maxine and I'm your Chair.
I love to dance and I want to get as many people as possible to feel as enthusiastic about it as I do. It's not about talent or skill it's just about coming and learning new things, meeting new people and gradually improving. Whether you've been dancing for decades or never done it before we have classes for you! Dancesoc is about making dance accessible to everyone so you can be as passionate about it as we are! Please come along and challenge yourelf to do something new (or old!) and us to help you fully enjoy it. Members of Dance Society join for a multitude of reasons, whether it's because they've been dancing for years or they just want to meet new people. We also have members who join to improve their overall fitness to help themselves out with a different sport as it is the best (and most fun) way to develop flexibility, agility, core strength and cardio! As such, we are one of the largest societies on campus and constantly looking for ways to give members more of what they want, be it classes, performances or competitions and this year is looking very exciting!
We will be piloting a new, novice/intermediate competition, a showcase at the end of autumn term and new workshops. All of that on top of the current 6 classes we offer, Loughborough dance competition (where we will be fiercely defending our current status) and socials, old and new, so we can get to know more people! Please, come along and see how you can get involved, look through the ever-improving (although maybe slightly slowly) for examples of what we've achieved before and you may notice that there are a few committee and teacher positions that need filling, so no matter how much/little you'd like to be involved, we'd like to have you. Please contact me with any questions or to get onto the mailing list: dancesoc@yusu.org |
